Member for Warren-Blackwood, Terry Redman is encouraging eligible organisations to apply for funding to assist with the delivery of events planned to be held in the 2018-19 financial year.
Applications for the Regional Events Scheme (RES) and new Regional Aboriginal Events Scheme are now open through Tourism WA. “This program was boosted significantly by Royalties for Regions when The Nationals were in government and has helped showcase regional WA by supporting hundreds of events,” Mr Redman said. “Funding of between $5,000 and $50,000 can be requested to assist events that bring additional tourism income to the regions, involve local people and organisations, and attract media exposure that raises the profile of our regional towns and communities.” A pool of $150,000 is available specifically through the Regional Aboriginal Events Scheme for events delivering an authentic Aboriginal experience. Applications for both schemes are open until 5pm on Tuesday December 12, 2017. More information and application guidelines can be found at http://www.tourism.wa.gov.au/res. Events in the Warren-Blackwood previously funded by the RES include Truffle Kerfuffle, Drug Aware Margaret River Pro, Gourmet Escape, Blues in Bridgetown, Augusta Adventure Fest, Karri Valley Triathlon, and Grapes and Gallops Festival in Mt Barker. “All these events stimulate the local economy and encourage tourists and locals to enjoy the wider attractions in the region.” Mr Redman said while it was positive the State Government was funding the Regional Events Scheme, it was disappointing to see funding cuts in other areas of the sector. “The McGowan Government will no longer provide grants for regional visitor centres which I believe is short-sighted as these centres promote our towns, encourage people to stay longer in the regions and help maximise positive visitor experiences,” Mr Redman said. This change in name emphasises the state-wide nature of the wine show. It is the only wine show in Australia specifically designed to recognise and celebrate the outstanding wines produced by WA boutique wineries. The Blackwood Valley Wine Show will be held at the same time, with geographically limited entry options in this show ensuring a strong emphasis remains on our local producers.
Once the professional judging panel have tasted and assessed all entries and results have been determined, an Awards Presentation and Wine Tasting evening will be held for the public from 5pm to 730pm on Saturday, 21 October at the Bridgetown Gardens Function Centre. Come meet some local winemakers and find out why their wines are gaining recognition throughout the state. This is easily one of the best value events held in our region, with not only around 200 wines available for tasting, but also delicious canapés and live music - all for only $30 per person. Talk about a great start to the evening! Tickets are limited, so please book early to avoid disappointment. They are available online from the Bridgetown-Greenbushes Visitor Centre at www.bridgetown.com.au or by phoning 08 9761 1740. Western Australian farmers are the target of a new website that seeks to protect farming families and workers, and improve farm business performance through better safety awareness and practices. Safe Farms WA (formerly known as the Farmsafe WA Alliance) received $20,000 from the CBH Group to develop the website, www.safefarms.net.au , which was showcased today at the Newdegate Field Day, and provides growers with materials relevant to their farming business. CBH’s sponsorship directly supports grain growers and industry members by providing a new trustworthy place to access up to date and important information, such as legislative requirements as well as a practical and comprehensive customised manual, to help growers build a culture of safety, health and wellbeing. Safety Champion and Chair of Safe Farms WA Mike Norton said the new website would be the first of a suite of offerings currently being developed by Farmsafe WA. “Western Australian farmers are global leaders in innovation and production – we can also be leaders in on farm safety,” Mr Norton said. “Our partnership with CBH is a perfect example of having industry on board supporting us so that we can provide the solutions farmers need. “We’re pleased that there is recognition for the importance of safety on farms, and we will continue to work hard and build strategic alliances with industry.” CBH Group Chairman Wally Newman said he was positive about the co-operative’s support for the new website. “CBH’s sponsorship ensures that Safe Farms WA can continue to provide important information and safety tools for the farming industry,” Mr Newman said. “At CBH, our vision is for everyone to return home safely at the end of each working day. “No one wants anyone to be injured on farms, and we also don't want growers to incur what can be large fines or risk losing your farm because you weren’t aware of your responsibilities in regards to safety.” SAFE FARMS WA VISION Safe Farms WA is committed to supporting farmers in making their workplace a safe environment, through the reduction and prevention of accidents and deaths, leading to improved productivity and well-being.
